Professional Development

Our QM Alaska System of institutions offers collaborative training for the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR), and the Improving Your Online Course (IYOC). Learn more about:

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) is a rigorous, two-week, asynchronous course for faculty, administrators, and staff to become familiar with the QM rubric and how the standards inform online course design. Participants will leave with specific and measurable ways to improve their online courses. This workshop is the first required step in becoming a certified peer reviewer.

Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) explores the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online and blended courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their own online/blended courses and develop a course improvement plan. The UA QM IYOC can fulfill a preliminary course review role in preparing for a formally recognized QM Course Review.  Participants come away with a plan for course improvement, so they are required to have a pre-developed online or blended course to use throughout the workshop.

See our Events Calendar for the dates and registration of the next workshop.

Each campus in our QM Alaska System has the opportunity to run on-campus classroom versions of the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) and the Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) online or on campus.

Quality Matters (QM) offers a wide variety of workshops, courses, webinars, and events.  Most of these have a tuition cost; however, each of our institutions has a professional development budget that might accommodate some extra training.  If you are interested in any additional QM professional development opportunities, please talk with the QM Coordinator at your campus/institution.
